Short breaks like in a picture book

If you’re looking to escape the daily grind for a few days, the Solothurn Jura is the perfect destination for a picture-perfect short getaway. The region captivates visitors with its unspoiled nature, tranquil landscapes, and charming villages. It’s a true hidden gem for those seeking relaxation. Whether it’s a spontaneous weekend getaway or a carefully planned trip—even a short stay here feels like a true break.

The Solothurn Jura offers a wide variety of themed trails that invite visitors to discover the region in a unique way. Whether you’re interested in literature, history, or scenery—there’s a trail for everyone here. The diverse themed trails invite you to explore the region in a special way: On the Egerkingen and Holderbank Poetry Trails, literary texts and quotes accompany hikers through nature. Starting at the Neu-Falkenstein ruins, the Thal Wood Trail uses artistic installations to tell fascinating stories about wood. The Jura High Trail offers sweeping views of the Jura landscape, while the Solothurn Forest Hikes lead through quiet woods and across sunny hillsides. Each trail tells its own story.

The3-Castles Hike in the Thal Nature Park combines nature exploration with medieval history. On this approximately 15-kilometer hike, visitors discover three impressive castle ruins: Alt-Falkenstein, Alt-Bechburg, and Neu-Falkenstein.
Alt-Falkenstein towers over the “Klus” and now houses a museum with fascinating exhibitions on regional history. The Alt-Bechburg ruins near Holderbank, built around 1050, offer a sweeping view of the Augstbach Valley. Neu-Falkenstein near Balsthal, likely built in the 12th century, invites visitors to linger with its imposing tower and picnic areas. All castles are freely accessible at any time.

The route winds through varied landscapes and is ideal for experienced hikers who want to experience history up close.
The region delights visitors not only with its picturesque landscapes but also with its diverse culinary offerings. Whether in cozy village taverns or charming mountain restaurants, guests can enjoy regional specialties in an authentic atmosphere. Restaurants such as the Bergwirtschaft Tiefmatt, the Blüemlismatt, and the Bergrestaurant zum Roggen invite you to stop in and enjoy homemade dishes made with regional ingredients.
Whether as a reward after a hike or as the destination of a delightful excursion, the culinary offerings are as diverse as the landscape itself.

There’s no better way to end a day in the Solothurn Jura than with an overnight stay surrounded by nature. Whether in cozy inns, mountain restaurants with scenic views, or through a unique experience like sleeping in the straw—the region offers accommodations full of character. Small hotels and country inns combine comfort with a personal atmosphere, while groups are well taken care of in larger mountain inns and group accommodations.

Perfect for anyone who wants to wake up in the morning to the sound of birds singing and a view of green hills.
